Physical quantities and units, the basics of structural analysis (strength, force couples, moments), Newton's laws, equilibrium, the fundamentals of strength of materials (stress types, train, compression, bending, torsion, shearing off)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Applied methods including macro and micro levels of teaching. Macro methods are case studies (calculations) and expert consultations. Micro methods are keynote lectures; presentation of examples and discussions. Students work individually as well as in pairs or groups, sometimes in the plenum.
