UAS BFI Vienna: a look back over our first 25 years

2019

  • UAS BFI Vienna, University for Economics, Management & Finance is awarded a Jean Monnet Chair by the EU

2018

  • UAS BFI Vienna adopts its new Strategy 2025. The university’s hochschuleundfamilie (university and family) certification is renewed, and it is named one of the country’s top employers for 2018.
  • The university also becomes a founding member of the STUWER-VIERTEL-ZWEI education hub initiative in Vienna’s second district

2017

  • UAS BFI Vienna signs up to the UN Global Compact, underlining its commitment to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

2016

  • Time to celebrate – UAS BFI Vienna turns 20! The university now has a total of 13 bachelor and master degree programmes, around 1,900 students and over 5,000 graduates, and offers a range of highly successful executive education programmes

2015

  • The Ombudsman Service for Good Scientific Practice is established
  • Kai Erenli, Director of the Film, TV and Media Production bachelor programme, receives the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy’s Ars Docendi State Award for excellent academic teaching

2013

  • Renewal of the university’s accreditation to issue Diploma Supplements and ECTS credits
  • 20 additional study places are offered on the full-time European Economy and Business Management bachelor degree programme, which is taught entirely in English

2012/13

  • Introduction of the Strategic HR Management in Europe master programme

2011/12

  • The Film, TV and Media Production bachelor programme begins

2009

  • The university’s accreditation to issue Diploma Supplements and ECTS credits is renewed
  • Start of the Quantitative Asset and Risk Management master degree programme
  • Establishment of the Competence Center for Black Sea Region Studies

2008/09

  • Start of the Work Design and HR Management bachelor degree programme

2007/08

  • The Technical Sales and Distribution Management bachelor degree programme is launched

2006/07

  • All diploma degree programmes switch to the bachelor/master format. Master programmes are only offered in a part-time format

2006

  • UAS BFI Vienna becomes the only university in Austria to receive accreditation to issue ECTS credits
  • The university celebrates its 10th anniversary
  • Introduction of the second core research topic: Location Competition and Regions

2005

  • The university receives approval from the European Commission to issue Diploma Supplements
  • The Black Sea region is designated as a focal point of the university’s internationalisation strategy

2004/05

  • UAS BFI Vienna becomes the first university in Austria to offer a certificate programme for further professional education – the Public Auditor programme – in accordance with section 9 Universities of Applied Sciences Act
  • UAS BFI Vienna is the first Austrian university of applied sciences to publish an intellectual capital report

2003/04

  • The MBA Risk Management postgraduate programme begins
  • The Banking and Finance diploma degree programme is the first programme to switch to the six-semester bachelor and three-semester master format
  • Basel II is selected as the university’s first core research topic

2002/03

  • Start of the Logistics and Transport Management diploma degree programme

2002

  • The university is officially designated as a university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule)

2001/02

  • Project Management and Information Technology diploma degree programme launched

1998/99

  • Banking and Finance diploma degree programme begins
