Communicative focus:
Preferences about leisure activities; invitations and suggestions; wishes; dates; describing and evaluating films, TV programmes and other events; planning a holiday; information about cultural and leisure activities in a place; recounting past and present actions and circumstances; health problems related to lack of exercise; health conditions (symptoms of illness, warnings and recommendations).
Grammar:
Verb apetecer; to propose, accept or reject; verb quedar; imperative; adverbs ending in -mente; articles with body parts; impersonal use with tú; conditional clauses: si + present tense; relating ideas with connectors; percentages.

Assessment methods and criteria

Choice between:

  • Internationally recognised language certificate: The DELE exam is passed if 60% of the maximum score is achieved in each of the two parts (the 1st part is oral production and oral interaction plus listening comprehension and the 2nd part is written production and interaction plus reading comprehension). If the candidate fails only one part of the examination, the whole examination must be repeated.
Internal exam: oral part 40% (oral production and interaction 20 points, oral reception 20 points), written part 60% (reading comprehension 30 points, written production and interaction 30 points).

After successful completion of the course, students can

  • make arrangements regarding meeting place/date/time and obtain information regarding arrival and departure, as long as these are linguistically brief and concise
  • greet colleagues/clients and exchange simple courtesies, e.g. respond to invitations and apologies
  • briefly introduce themselves in a text (job/family/hobbies)
  • describe an event and say what, when and where it took place.
  • In addition, they develop intercultural competency in contact with Spanish-speaking partners with the aim of building up the mutual necessary trust for common business.
They are introduced to the etiquette of the organisation of the first meeting so that they can
  • introduce themselves and other colleagues, as well as their own company,
  • carry out small talk,
  • invite guests to city tours and business meals.
