Brief description

  • concepts of sustainability and responsible conduct: sustainability and sustainable development, corporate ethics, leadership ethics and business ethics; triple bottom line (ecology, economy, social issues),
  • instruments, materiality and impact; CSR, SDGs,
  • contexts of responsible conduct and economic activity: globalization, (economic) growth and lifestyles: sustainable development in a society of steady growth, global interconnectedness and individualized lifestyles,
  • tension field economy – ecology – social issues; tension field systemic “factual constraint” – personal responsibility; individual responsibility and possible effects and side effects,
  • implementation in the organizational context: responsible conduct in the company; sustainable production, sustainable innovation, sustainable financing and the related sustainability measurements,
  • decent work: sustainable and “healthy“ work versus performance society; achievement society between burnout and self-exploitation: new forms of work and the promise of a sustainable world of work; individual responsibility for oneself (self-care) and the immediate (work) environment,
  • ethics and responsible conduct as interdisciplinary topic, anchoring in the sense of critical thinking

Learning outcome

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to

  • illustrate how management and project management are integrated in a broad context of economic, ecological and social factors,
  • outline essential concepts of sustainability, justice and decent work,
  • describe the effects of their (later) professional conduct on society and the natural environment,
  • assess their contribution to social responsibility and long-term sustainable development, and
  • apply these in their decisions as managers.
