Preparation: Metaphors of culture, “Me” as a cultural being, stereotypes & generalizations, cultural values, communication styles, when cultures collide (culture shock), balancing challenge and support, how to cope with the challenges. Lived experience: “Them” as cultural beings, cultural surprises and irritation, navigating culture, describe, interpret and evaluate a framework (DIVE), cultural values, dealing with conflict, power and privilege. Debrief: Making sense of the experience, taking action

Learning outcome

After successful completion of CREACT Virtual Learning, outgoing students are able to reflect on their own and others characteristic ways of framing/behaving in a given cultural context, to manage their thoughts and emotions as they become aware of the nature of the cultural gap between themselves and the culturally different other and to bridge the cultural gap by moving toward the other’s way of framing/behaving.
